While the tier listing shown above allows for 5 distinct metagames, Smogon University used a slightly different tier list. The differences represent an outdated look at the first generation and also take into consideration the legality of partial-trapping moves. With the emergence of RBY to Pokémon Online's online battle client, there may be some debate over which system of tiering should be used.
Smogon has recently removed their BL tier altogether and merged it with their UU tier. The UU tier has since been removed and merged with OU.
